Melford is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary
Co-Educational Day School for children of ages 4+ to 9+. We also
have a nursery unit offering 25 pre-school places, operating in
the morning.
The school was built in 1974 and is of semi-open plan design with carpeted class areas that extend into activity areas. We have a music room, library area and I.C.T suite which we hope to extend during this Summer so that we can offer the facilities to the local community for after school hours either as a "drop-in" centre or with set training classes through the adult education service. The school benefits from its own playing field, heated out-door swimming pool, natural science enclosure and creative play area.
The school had a very good OFSTED report in 1998 which confirmed the high levels of performance by pupils and staff.
"Long Melford is a good school with a caring ethos. The proportion of pupils reaching national expectations in English, mathematics and science is well above the national average. Teaching and support staff work as a team under the successful leadership of the headteacher. All staff bring enthusiasm, commitment and expertise to their work and the school is an orderly and happy community."
