Alexander Lyall's showrooms have formed a prominent part of the Long Melford antiques scene since 1981. Here, displayed in typical beamed surroundings, he features a range of quality 18th and early 19th century Georgian and Victorian furniture with a particular emphasis on original desks and bookcases which are his specialty.

The Gate is situated at the top end of the village green, just yards along the Clare Road (A1092), on the left side of Westgate Street. The shop has an eclectic mix of stock, reflecting the owners' own interests in antique textiles, fabrics & quilts, 18thC & 19thC costume & accessories, as well as period painted furniture, folk art, juvenilia, toy theatres & ephemera.
