HERITAGE CENTRE SPRING OPENING EVENT in the Village Hall and Hertitage Centre 10am until 4pm on Sunday 2nd April. It is hoped to have attending a WW1 Locomobile Army Lorry, one of the last remaining examples in the UK, along with a WW2 US army jeep, vintage vehicles, and several assorted stationary engines which will be steaming up on the day. Also for the first time the Heritage Centre will have in attendance Darren Clarke an expert metal detectorist who will be showing some of his local finds and carrying out identification free of charge, so if anyone has an object they have dug up and need identifying please bring it along on the day. In addition to this seasons new displays inside the Heritage Centre and as an added attraction on open day (for that day only), we will be displaying in the main village hall a large collection of old photographs of bygone Melford featuring many aspects of village life including Farming, Industry, Pubs, School etc. the last time this collection saw the light of day was circa 1973 when it was displayed at the Old School by our highly respected village Policeman Tom Howlett who sadly died in 1975 aged 48, having had the privilege to know Tom I am sure he would have been thrilled to bits to know they are being displayed again, so please make a note in your diaries to pop along on the 2nd April. Following the open day event we will be open as usual on Wednesday afternoons 2-4pm Saturdays 10-4pm and Sundays 12-4pm. We are keen to enrol new volunteers at the Heritage Centre to enable this important local attraction to continue, so if you can spare as little as two hours a month we would be delighted to hear from you, please contact Cllr John Nunn on 01787 313496 or email nunnjohn@btinternet.com
