"Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
"Is hung with bloom along the bough,
"And stands about the woodland ride
"Wearing white for Eastertide. . . ."
A.E.Housman
This really is wild cherry blossom growing in Groton Wood, a few miles East of Long Melford. The woodpeckers were pecking away too, this afternoon. Quite a noise! There are lots of old trees still standing which are hollow at the heart, and ideal for them and for many other birds.

Faced with a season starting in April, Long Melford Cricket Club were daunted by the prospect after discovering their outfield cutting equipment was beyond repair.
Applications were made to meet the £3000 plus cost to no avail. However Long Melford Community Association and Long Melford Parish Council came to the aid with grants, and Cllr Kemp was able to help with a £1000 cheque from his SCC Locality Fund.
Commenting Cllr Kemp said “I am pleased to help in this direction, the Club is very helpful to young people, boys and girls, with coaching sessions, 2 youth teams and in general is good for the Community running 4 senior teams in various leagues”.
